This was easily the worst restaurant experience of our 6 weeks in Europe. The Michelin star is a colossal joke. The 60 euro dinner menu had TINY portions (literally <30gm for the beef, chicken and cheese courses). None of them were particularly tasty or artistic. We would not order any of them again in any amount. The room was noisy and hot. The service pretentious (sometimes taking longer to listen to the explanation of the food than actually eating it)and extremely slow, taking over 3 hours. There is no way we would ever consider eating at this "restaurant" again, even if you tried to pay us.

Great reporting on finding Wynton Marsalis' FB comments Jeanne!

I agree with Wynton Marsalis' comments but in defense of the NJF, it was much more jazz-oriented that in many of the past years. Since maintaining a jazz focus is often at the price of ticket sales, I respect the Ville de Nice for trying to bring the festival back to its roots.

As to the music of one stage bleeding onto the other, this was new venue and the stages are farther apart than up on Cimiez as well as facing different directions, so this was not expected to be such a problem. In the final press conference, the mayor acknowledged this as something that needs to be fixed for next year. More sensitivity when matching up programming slots (ie: Seal against Shorty, not Avashi Cohen) would also help.

As to the crowds, I say spread the headliners out instead of jamming then all into one or two nights. I'm not at all for raising the ticket prices... I love that the low prices make the festival and its discoveries accessible to everyone!

Great fest review Jeanne!

If you are in the Cannes area, I would strongly recommend Boulangerie de la Californie (96 avenue Marechal Juin, terrific baguette and various succulent local breads...and, unfortunately for my belly, macaroon). In the Antibes area, we are very lucky because we have Veziano near the old walls (authentic fougasse, located rue de la Pompe) and Manganelli (rue Aubernon near the Provençal market) with stratospheric onion tarts, apple tart and baguette as well as pain de campagne. In Cannes, you can also go to Paul (8 rue Meynadier) near the townhouse.
