Notice that from Cannes to Ventimiglia the train runs along the coast. Very scenic! The train is a great way to visit Riviera beaches and to take day trips from Nice to Monaco, to Cannes, to Villefranche-sur-Mer, to Menton, to Antibes.

The train is not a great way to visit picturesque villages in the interior however. Most hilltop villages are only accessible by bus. To see explore the interior, take one of the special trains such as the Train des Pignes and Train des Merveilles that cover the back country.
